I know that I’m jumping from one extreme to the other by doing this Tibi post right after a an inspiration post on Junya Watanabe, but I’m having one of those lazy days when I just want things to be easy. Amy Smilovic, the designer for Tibi, is an expert at making things easy-breeze and ready to wear (literally). Her collections are fresh and straight forward – filled with pieces that are strikingly simple yet fabulous. For example her collections include: spaghetti-strap blouses and dresses in solid colors accessorized only with nude sandals, buttonless silk jackets with matching shorts in sherbet hues, and draped silk peg-leg trousers sensibly paired with simple tops. Smilovic’s collections are amongst some of the most wearable, commercial, and accessible (in every sense of the word), which are qualities loaded with their own set of pluses and minuses.
Her flowy maxis are my favourite, especially those in her signature, eye-catching prints. Personally I will always adore my Tibi dresses, but never as much as my more obscure, ‘avant-garde’ pieces.
