colour splash to work

This colour-happy look is what I wore to work yesterday. The Line, cashmere / modal cardigans is one of my most recent purchases. I bought a few in different colours because I feel that cardigans in general are some of the most essential and satisfying items to have an abundance of. No matter where you live (geographically), layering a sort cardi over your dress, tank, or blouse, makes evenings and air-conditioned spaces instantaneously cozier. Some readers have asked me to dedicate a post to wardrobe essentials for those who want to redefine their style, and it will be coming soon.  But until then, I can just tell you that starting with a black, simple cardigan that you love is very helpful; with time, you can add more colourful cardi options that will complete your looks both stylistically and practically.

*I wanted to thank dear Alexandra of To Vogue or Bust for the sweet feature she did on Fashionista Talk.

By the way, have you guys seen Sex and the City 2 yet, and if so, what did you think? I went to see it with a friend while I was in LA and I’m curious to hear your opinions.

  1. Love the colors! I love the way you pick the colors on the mini skirt and tie in with your bangles, cardigan, and necklace. Can you share where you can get “Line” clothes? I really like the cardigans you have featured in your blog including the one in your beach blog last week.

    1. I got the Julie & Jack cardigan (from the beach posts) at Winners in Toronto but I think they might be available online. The Line cardigans is from Holt Renfrew Last Call, Toronto, and they might be available online too. Both of the stores I mentioned carry designer clothes at discount-prices, so when looking for cashmere cardigans it's generally a good place to look because otherwise it can get really pricy. Hope this helps and thanks for asking dear Vicky.

      1. Thank you so much for sharing, Lida. I have spent sometime online and tried to find the brand and the stores you mentioned. This is what I came up with in case you have other American readers who are interested. “Winners” is the “TJMaxx” and “Marshalls” in the US. “Holt Renfrew Last Call” is purely Canadian. The possible equivalent store in the US is perhaps Filene's basement. Now, I was hoping to find online stores that sells “Line” or “Julie & Jack”, but had no luck. Next time I come up to Toronto, I know what to look for now. 🙂
        Thanks again. Love, Vicky

    1. I bought the cardigan at Holt Renfrew Last Call before leaving for LA (about 2 weeks ago). They were on an amazing sale so I got a whole bunch of different colours.

      Thanks Trishna.

  2. Your clothes are ridiculouly gorgeousss! I envy every picture I viewed and I only got to like the fifth page. Your colors and inspiration of your clothes are really inspiring. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

  3. Such a lovely outfit. Those bangles are fantastic! And I love the way they match the skirt. You are such a great dresser

  4. Beautfiul outfit! I did see SATC2, I thought some of the dialogue between the women were witty, the fashion was fabulous but I have to say it would have been better if they left the movie in NYC, I thought the movie lacked the NYC aspect of it and it would have been better to keep the movie in that setting rather than somewhere where the ladies could not just be themselves… What did you think of the movie?

    1. Wow, that's interesting because I was talking to girls at work about it and no one really offered any constructive criticism. Somehow the extent of their feedback couldn't get past “it was ok.”
I've always been a huge fan of the show (like most girls) but there were a few things that bugged me about the movie. I totally agree with you about missing the NYC aspect; the Abu Dhabi setting seemed unsatisfying. The city of New York itself was always such a huge part of the show that it almost felt like one of it's lead characters was missing in this movie. I also prefer more of Carrie's voice-over narration that the show had and I felt that SATC2 didn't have enough of it. I think the karaoke scene and the scene with Abu Dhabi women revealing their Marc Jacobs clothes were a little too cheesy even for the most loyal of SATC fans. On top of everything, Samantha's menopause talk did get a little excessive. Other than that, I loved the wild get-ups and all those gorgeous maxis. Overall I was a little disappointed but I'm still glad I saw it (not that it would ever get passed me anyway).
Thanks for your feedback and happy belated dear Robin!!!

      1. Awww I completely agree with the lack of the voice-over narration of Carrie and YES those karoke scene and the Abu Dhabi women revealing their Marc Jacobs clothes were very very cheesy. I was definitely disappointed compared to when I saw the first one…but I am glad that I did see it. I am unsure if they can or should have a third movie after this one though as this one felt a bit like they were trying…

Thank you for the bday wishes! :o)

  5. Love this outfit – I stumbled on it on lookbook this afternoon, but didn't manage to put 2 and 2 together that it was you! Love the skirt – I wish I worked in an office where I could wear something like this, because I think this is such a fab example of summer dressing. Unfortunately, my bosses would flip if I came to work in a skirt this short!

  6. Thank you so much for the shout-out Lida, you're a sweetheart!

I'm really loving the skirt a lot, I might have to make a trip down to Forever 21 and see if I can hunt it down 🙂

    Love Alexandra

  7. I love this outfit sooo much!! I have a thing for bright colours though..
I did go see SATC 2…and I did love it…but I will have to say that I never really watched the show much, so for me the movie is mostly about looking at amazing clothes.

    1. Oh that's interesting because I think most of the people go to see the movie because they were fans of the show. But in your case, I can totally see how coming in with a clear slate like that would possibly lead to a different overall impression – no major expectations attached. Thank you so much for your feedback.

    1. Hello dear Isabela and welcome ;). I have “trained” myself to follow something of a skin care regime with standard cleanser, toner, moisturizer, night cream, day cream products. I use Kiehl's rich moisturizer, which is essential for me because my skin tends to get pretty dry at times. Overall I think it's important not to forget to exfoliate at least once a week and to moisturize regularly.

P.S. this is a great question that I might have to turn into a post
